Zoheb Momin's Unseen Swayambhu Cover

Life is a series of firsts. The first day of school or college, the first love, the birth of our first child—all these remain indelibly imprinted within our minds, shaping the narratives by which we live out our existence and form our identities as individuals. Each initial one represents a stepping stone, indicating a span within which we should anticipate either pleasure, or apprehension, or sadness mingled with happiness and melancholy at times.

How Zoheb Momin Brings Swayambhu's Firsts to Canvas

The creation of an artwork often parallels these first experiences. There is a story behind every piece, a journey of inspiration, struggle, and eventual realization. One such story is of the first cover for our inaugural issue of “Incognito.” The cover was a rough sketch by the talented Zoheb Momin ji, a piece that captured the essence of the issue but, unfortunately, revealed too much about the personality behind the “Incognito” moniker.

It was supposed to be first cover of Incognito Issue 1 Hindi

Whenever I see this initial sketch, I feel a pang of loss for what could have been one of the finest covers of “Swayambhu.” The artwork was exquisite, but its candid nature meant it had to be set aside. Thankfully, Zoheb Momin ji understood the necessity of this decision and created another brilliant cover, which now graces the “Incognito” Hindi version.

Before this, I admired his work on the “Bullseye” covers—each one a testament to his skill and creativity. Today, I am excited to share these rough pencils by Zoheb ji with you all. It was scanned yesterday, and seeing it brings a renewed appreciation for the artistic journey and the beautiful firsts that shape our collective experience.

In life and art, firsts are unforgettable. They are the building blocks of our memories and the foundation of our stories. As we continue to create and experience, let’s cherish these moments and the unique paths they lead us down.
